Speculation and enthusiasm for the inaugural World Photographic Cup is rife amongst professional photographers, for the first ever competition launched around the globe, with teams from the USA  and Europe and from Africa, to Japan to Australia.

Announced by the Professional Photographers of America on their website’s homepage as, “An International competition celebrating photography in a way never dreamed of before!”

Whilst on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, the Federation of European Professional Photographers claimed that, “The World Photographic Cup is indeed a vehicle to enhance the recognition of  professional photography, and encourage image quality and creative excellence and support friendships across a diverse cultural environment .”

The WPC Governing Committee members emphasized that, “We really are doing something special, and hopefully… this will be a legacy of the joy we have for our craft in photography and the respect we have for photographers, no matter what country or part of the world they are from. With 22 national photographers’ teams already registered, we can’t really wait for the judging to begin and we are really looking forward to seeing  the best pictures from the best photographers around the world. There are still 2 weeks to go, so it is still possible more countries will enter, it would be even more amazing to involve more countries in this innovative enterprise.”

It will be extremely hard work for the international judges  to select  the winners, considering that all submitted images have previously undergone an initial difficult  selection process on a national scale. The judging panel is made up of 15 renowned professional photographers from Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Portugal and of course the USA!

The winners and the final results, (Individual medalists and the Cup winning team) will be announced during  the Grand Imaging Awards ceremony  at  Imaging USA , Phoenix, Arizona, on January 13th, 2014 at 7pm.  This event will immediately follow the PPA Grand Imaging Awards, which means it will have the highest profile and  largest audience in attendance a “World Cup” may desire and deserve.

The World Photographic Cup remains opens for further entries until the end of the month.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up with the best in the world and we hope to meet you all in Phoenix!

Good luck everyone!
